# How the average rating banner works ("4.9 from 120 reviews")

Set up the "4.9 from 120 reviews" banner on your widget or Wall of Fame page, use the {average\_rating} and {testimonials\_count} variables, and understand how the average is calculated.

The review banner is a small badge above your testimonials that shows stars, your average rating and how many reviews you have. You can switch it on for your widget and for your Wall of Fame page, and write your own text for it.

## Turn it on

**Testimonial widget:** open your wall → **Testimonial Widget** → **Widget Settings** panel → **Review Banner** → turn on **Enable Review Banner on Embeds** → **Save Widget Changes**.

**Wall of Fame page:** open your wall → **Wall of Fame Page** → **Wall Display Settings** panel → **Review Banner** → turn on **Enable review banner on the Wall of Fame page** → **Save Wall of Fame Changes**.

## Write your own banner text

Use **Text in the Review Banner** (widget) or **Text in the review banner** (Wall of Fame page). Two variables are replaced automatically:

| Variable               | Replaced with                                                   |
| ---------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `{average_rating}` | Your average star rating, to one decimal place, for example 4.8 |
| `{testimonials_count}` | The number of testimonials shown                                |

The default text is `{average_rating} from {testimonials_count} reviews`. You could change it to `Rated {average_rating}/5 by {testimonials_count} happy clients`.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Type the variables exactly as shown, including the "s" in `{testimonials_count}`. Any other spelling appears on your page as plain text. Each variable is replaced once, so use each one only once.
{% endhint %}

## Position

**Review Banner Position** places the banner on the **Left** or in the **Center**. On the Wall of Fame page, this only applies to the Simple, Plain Grid, Grid with Gradient and Dark Gradient designs. The newer designs show the rating inside the header instead.

## How the average is calculated

* It includes every testimonial on the wall that isn't archived.
* **Testimonials without a star rating count as 5 stars.** That includes most video testimonials, imported social posts and anything else without a rating, so the average can be higher than the average of your rated testimonials alone.
* The number of filled stars is rounded down: an average of 4.8 shows four full stars. A half star only appears for averages ending in exactly .5.
* The average only appears if your banner text contains `{average_rating}`. Without it, the banner always shows five stars.

## Good to know

* The banner shows above grid, carousel and dual slider widgets. The popup widget doesn't have one.
* **Rating Color** changes the stars on the cards, but the banner's stars always stay yellow.
* The review banner is available on every plan.
