🔠Why can't I auto-generate subtitles for a video, and how do I edit or remove them?

Fix subtitles that won't generate, correct a typo in a subtitle line, upload your own subtitle file, or remove subtitles from a video testimonial.

Famewall can create English subtitles for your video testimonials automatically. This page covers what to do when that doesn't work, and how to fix or remove subtitles afterwards.

Which videos get subtitles automatically

  • Videos you upload from the dashboard and videos you trim get English subtitles automatically.

  • Videos collected on your collection page don't. Add them yourself: click Subtitle under the video, then Autogenerate Caption.

The Subtitle Options window with the Autogenerate Subtitle and Upload Subtitle File tabs
Generate subtitles automatically, or upload your own file

New subtitles show the next time the video loads, so reload the page to see them.

"Could not generate subtitles if older than 7 days"

Automatic subtitles can only be generated within 7 days of the video being added. For older videos, you have two options:

  • Upload your own subtitle file: click Subtitle, open the Upload Subtitle File tab, choose an .srt or .vtt file and click Add Subtitle to video.

  • Delete the video and upload it again, then generate subtitles.

If you see "Could not find audio to caption", the video has no sound track that can be transcribed.

Fix a typo in the subtitles

  1. Click Subtitle under the video. Videos that already have subtitles open the subtitle editor.

  2. Edit the text of any line. The timings can't be changed.

  3. Click Save Changes and reload the page.

Remove subtitles

Click Delete Subtitles under the video. The subtitles disappear the next time the video loads.

Good to know

  • Automatic subtitles are English only. For other languages, upload your own .srt or .vtt file.

  • After adding subtitles, the Delete Subtitles and Generate video summary options appear once you reload the page.

  • Subtitles aren't available for YouTube, TikTok and Loom videos.
